Carry the watch a consulting detective would have approved of. The Sherlock Holmes Pewter Pocket Watch wears a hand cast Holmes motif on its front, fitted with a quartz movement and a three-year battery.

The motif is hand cast in some of the finest British Pewter at our Birmingham pewter workshop. At around 77g it has a substantial feel without dragging a waistcoat pocket out of shape. It comes complete with its chain in a leatherette presentation box, which makes it a gift for crime fiction readers, Sherlockians, retiring detectives, fathers and grandfathers. It is one of the more literary of our pocket watches.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's great detective first appeared in print in 1887 and has been observing, deducing and quietly refusing to retire ever since. Holmes himself was rarely seen without a pocket watch, which makes the pairing a natural one for a watch face.

A Pewter Maker picking up an Antique Mould

A E Williams (Est 1779) Ltd is one of Britain's oldest pewter makers, still run by the family that founded it nearly 250 years ago. 


The story began when Thomas Williams started a small workshop making flatware and dishes from his home on the Welsh border, and from there the craft passed down through eight generations of the same family, all the way to Rebecca Johnson, who joined the business in 2015. 


Today we're based at our workshop in Digbeth, Birmingham, where we've been since the early 1970s.

OUR STORY
Pouring molten pewter into a bronze mould

We work from a collection of over 1,500 antique bronze moulds, some of which are centuries old. Many were made by hand long before machine tooling existed, and we still use them today, alongside moulds and skills of our own, to produce pieces with the kind of character that mass production simply can't replicate.
