Spitfire Engraved Pint Beer Glass with Handmade Polished Pewter Base

Few aircraft carry the weight of history quite like the Spitfire. Designed by R.J. Mitchell and flown by the pilots of the Battle of Britain, its elliptical wings and unmistakable silhouette became a symbol of resistance during the darkest days of the Second World War — as recognisable today as it was eighty years ago. Our Spitfire Engraved Pint Beer Glass captures that iconic profile, etched onto a full-size UK pint glass and set on a handmade, polished pewter base that gives the whole piece some proper weight and presence on the bar.

The Spitfire is engraved in fine detail on the front of the glass, wings spread mid-flight, with the aircraft's name lettered beneath. Optional personal engraving is available for a small surcharge, so you can add a name, initials, squadron number, or short dedication and turn it into something built for one person in particular.

The glass holds a full UK pint, stands 14cm tall and 9cm wide, and weighs 350g — solid enough to feel substantial in hand without being unwieldy. It arrives boxed and ready to give, whether that's for a birthday, Father's Day, a retirement, or as an aviation gift for anyone with a soft spot for classic British aircraft. Gift wrap is available for a small additional fee.

A Pewter Maker picking up an Antique Mould

A E Williams (Est 1779) Ltd is one of Britain's oldest pewter makers, still run by the family that founded it nearly 250 years ago.

The story began when Thomas Williams started a small workshop making flatware and dishes from his home on the Welsh border, and from there the craft passed down through eight generations of the same family, all the way to Rebecca Johnson, who joined the business in 2015.

Today we're based at our workshop in Digbeth, Birmingham, where we've been since the early 1970s.

OUR STORY
Pouring molten pewter into a bronze mould

We work from a collection of over 1,500 antique bronze moulds, some of which are centuries old. Many were made by hand long before machine tooling existed, and we still use them today, alongside moulds and skills of our own, to produce pieces with the kind of character that mass production simply can't replicate.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

At A E Williams, the materials we work with have been chosen over nearly 250 years of making things properly. Pewter sits at the heart of everything we do, but we also work with slate, glass, leather, and wood — each selected because it brings something the others can't: a different feel, a different occasion, a different kind of beauty.

Whatever you're looking for, every material we use is chosen to last, and to look better for it.
