Whisky Tumbler FAQs
Do A. E. Williams engrave whisky tumblers?
Yes A. E. Williams do offer engraving on all of our whiskey tumbler ranges. Our Leather Wrapped Whiskey Glasses have an engraving option: each 300ml crystal whiskey tumbler sits inside a hand-stitched leather sleeve engraved with a wedding party role, from "Best Man" and "Groomsman" through to "Mother of the Bride", covering the whole top table. The wording is set per design rather than made to order, and each one arrives gift-boxed. View our complete Wedding Gifts collection.
What is a whisky tumbler?
A whiskey tumbler is a short, stemless glass with a flat base, made for drinking whiskey neat, on the rocks or with a splash of water or soda.
At A. E. Williams we set that glass into a handcrafted pewter base, cast and finished by hand in our Birmingham workshop, the same way our family has done it since 1779. The glass keeps the whiskey's flavour honest, the pewter gives it the weight and warmth a bare glass tumbler never will.
How much whisky is in a tumbler?
Pour to taste. A tumbler doesn't set the amount, whether you're drinking it neat, over ice or mixed with water or soda. Some stick to a single measure, others prefer a double. The next question covers what a single measure means by law.
How much whisky in a tumbler for a single measure?
Under UK weights and measures law, a single measure of whiskey sold by the glass in a pub or bar must be either 25ml or 35ml. A venue picks one and sticks to it, not both on the same premises. A double is two of whichever measure that venue uses, so 50ml or 70ml. (GOV.UK: Weights and measures – specified quantities)
At home none of that applies. Pour what suits you and the company you're keeping. The legal measure is a useful marker if you want consistency with the taste of your drink.
