Light candles without losing the tablecloth. The Drip Tray Pewter Candlestick Pair has a generous wax tray built into each base, hand cast from antique bronze moulds and polished by hand.

Each candlestick is hand cast in some of the finest British pewter at our Birmingham pewter workshop, using antique bronze moulds, then turned on a lathe and polished by hand. Each stands 116mm tall on a 90mm base and weighs around 550g, a stable weight that earns its place without dominating the table. These are the candlesticks you reach for when the candles are actually getting lit.

Pewter has a particular relationship with candlelight. It does not gleam back the way silver does, it glows softly instead, which is exactly what you want on a dinner table or a windowsill at dusk. Both candlesticks carry our A. E. Williams touch mark, which makes the pair a good gift for housewarmings, weddings or anniversaries.

A Pewter Maker picking up an Antique Mould

A E Williams (Est 1779) Ltd is one of Britain's oldest pewter makers, still run by the family that founded it nearly 250 years ago. 


The story began when Thomas Williams started a small workshop making flatware and dishes from his home on the Welsh border, and from there the craft passed down through eight generations of the same family, all the way to Rebecca Johnson, who joined the business in 2015. 


Today we're based at our workshop in Digbeth, Birmingham, where we've been since the early 1970s.

OUR STORY
Pouring molten pewter into a bronze mould

We work from a collection of over 1,500 antique bronze moulds, some of which are centuries old. Many were made by hand long before machine tooling existed, and we still use them today, alongside moulds and skills of our own, to produce pieces with the kind of character that mass production simply can't replicate.
