Enamelled Brooch Twist Knot

Wear a knotwork design that comes out slightly different every time. Our Enamelled Pewter Twist Knot Brooch is cast by hand, polished to a clean shine, then filled with a blend of three enamel colours.

Each brooch is made at our Birmingham pewter workshop in some of the finest British Pewter. Because the enamel goes on by hand, no two end up quite identical. It measures 40mm in diameter and weighs around 30g, a touch smaller than our Swirl Brooch, which suits a more structured outfit and sits beautifully on a lapel or scarf. It arrives in a small jewellery box, a good gift for birthdays, anniversaries, Mother's Day or Arts and Crafts collectors.

The twisting knotwork design is inspired by Archibald Knox, the early-twentieth-century designer who created the famous Cymric and Tudric ranges for Liberty of London. His Celtic-revival style still feels remarkably modern more than a century on. Owning a brooch genuinely descended from Knox's work is no small thing.

A Pewter Maker picking up an Antique Mould

A E Williams (Est 1779) Ltd is one of Britain's oldest pewter makers, still run by the family that founded it nearly 250 years ago. 


The story began when Thomas Williams started a small workshop making flatware and dishes from his home on the Welsh border, and from there the craft passed down through eight generations of the same family, all the way to Rebecca Johnson, who joined the business in 2015. 


Today we're based at our workshop in Digbeth, Birmingham, where we've been since the early 1970s.

OUR STORY
Pouring molten pewter into a bronze mould

We work from a collection of over 1,500 antique bronze moulds, some of which are centuries old. Many were made by hand long before machine tooling existed, and we still use them today, alongside moulds and skills of our own, to produce pieces with the kind of character that mass production simply can't replicate.
