Flying Fortress Engraved Whisky Tumbler with Handmade Polished Pewter Base
Our Flying Fortress Engraved Whisky Tumbler brings the American workhorse of the Second World War to our aviation range — a properly weighted whisky tumbler with the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress beautifully engraved on the side of the glass, set into a handmade pewter base polished to a high shine. The pewter wraps around the bottom of the tumbler, lifting it from a glass into something considerably more substantial.
The Flying Fortress earned its name honestly — bristling with defensive .50-calibre guns, rugged enough to bring its crews home missing engines, wings and tail sections, and iconic enough to become the emblem of the American strategic bombing campaign over Europe. If our Lancaster tumbler is for the British crews who flew the long, cold nights, this one is for the American crews who flew the equally dangerous days. The Memphis Belle, the Bloody Hundredth, the Mighty Eighth — this is the aircraft that carried them.
The pewter base is handmade at our Birmingham foundry in some of the finest British Pewter, polished by hand to a bright finish. The tumbler holds 300ml — a generous measure for a fine bourbon, a favourite single malt, or anything else worth raising — and weighs around 410g, giving it the substantial, properly-grounded feel that the best whisky glassware always has.
Add a personal engraving to the glass to turn it into a one-of-a-kind keepsake. For the full experience, you can add a set of stainless steel whisky stones, which chill a dram without ever diluting it. It arrives presented in a gift box, making it a perfect gift for USAAF veterans and their families, Eighth Air Force followers, aviation enthusiasts, retiring pilots, Father's Day, milestone birthdays, or for yourself, why not.

A E Williams (Est 1779) Ltd is one of Britain's oldest pewter makers, still run by the family that founded it nearly 250 years ago.
The story began when Thomas Williams started a small workshop making flatware and dishes from his home on the Welsh border, and from there the craft passed down through eight generations of the same family, all the way to Rebecca Johnson, who joined the business in 2015.
Today we're based at our workshop in Digbeth, Birmingham, where we've been since the early 1970s.

We work from a collection of over 1,500 antique bronze moulds, some of which are centuries old. Many were made by hand long before machine tooling existed, and we still use them today, alongside moulds and skills of our own, to produce pieces with the kind of character that mass production simply can't replicate.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
At A E Williams, the materials we work with have been chosen over nearly 250 years of making things properly. Pewter sits at the heart of everything we do, but we also work with slate, glass, leather, and wood — each selected because it brings something the others can't: a different feel, a different occasion, a different kind of beauty.
Whatever you're looking for, every material we use is chosen to last, and to look better for it.
