Salmon Design Natural Slate Coaster Set of Four

The Atlantic salmon is the fish that swam the ocean, found its way home to a specific Scottish river, and thoroughly deserves its place on a coaster. Our Salmon Design Natural Slate Coaster Set of Four etches a detailed salmon into each of the four coasters — a properly grown-up set for the angler's home, or anyone who takes their fish more seriously than the average shopping list. Designed and made in Britain.

Each coaster measures approximately 10cm x 10cm, cut from natural slate in a deep charcoal that lets the etched fish stand out beautifully. Padded feet on the reverse protect wooden tables, marble worktops and fine finishes from scratches, and the set comes neatly bound in a presentation sleeve, ready for gifting or tidy storage. The pack weighs around 540g in total.

A perfect gift for fly fishermen, river ghillies, anyone who's stood in the Spey, the Tay or the Tweed longer than was strictly sensible, a Father's Day present, a housewarming for a fishing lodge or riverside home, or a retirement gift for someone whose next chapter involves considerably more rods. Gift wrap is available for a small additional fee.

A note: because these coasters are made from natural slate, small imperfections in colour and surface are part of the character — the mark of a genuine natural material rather than a manufactured lookalike.

A Pewter Maker picking up an Antique Mould

A E Williams (Est 1779) Ltd is one of Britain's oldest pewter makers, still run by the family that founded it nearly 250 years ago.

The story began when Thomas Williams started a small workshop making flatware and dishes from his home on the Welsh border, and from there the craft passed down through eight generations of the same family, all the way to Rebecca Johnson, who joined the business in 2015.

Today we're based at our workshop in Digbeth, Birmingham, where we've been since the early 1970s.

OUR STORY
Pouring molten pewter into a bronze mould

We work from a collection of over 1,500 antique bronze moulds, some of which are centuries old. Many were made by hand long before machine tooling existed, and we still use them today, alongside moulds and skills of our own, to produce pieces with the kind of character that mass production simply can't replicate.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

At A E Williams, the materials we work with have been chosen over nearly 250 years of making things properly. Pewter sits at the heart of everything we do, but we also work with slate, glass, leather, and wood — each selected because it brings something the others can't: a different feel, a different occasion, a different kind of beauty.

Whatever you're looking for, every material we use is chosen to last, and to look better for it.
