Horn based Candlestick Pair

Bring a warm glow to a dining table. The Horn Based Pewter Candlestick Pair sets a pewter top and stem on a polished natural horn base, each one standing 15cm tall.

Each candlestick sits on a 9.5cm horn base, with a 5cm pewter top and a 2.3cm candle hole sized for standard taper candles. The pair weighs around 640g. The pewter is made at our Birmingham pewter workshop in some of the finest British Pewter. The horn comes from natural sources and varies slightly in colour and grain, so no two pairs are quite identical.

The design dates from 1966, originally created as an apprentice piece by one of our pewtersmiths. We have been making it ever since. The candlesticks have also done their time on screen, appearing in Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd, where they lent a properly grim Victorian touch to Fleet Street. As provenance for a candlestick goes, that is hard to beat.

Please note that this item is made to order and can take up to six weeks. These are properly labour intensive pieces.

A Pewter Maker picking up an Antique Mould

A E Williams (Est 1779) Ltd is one of Britain's oldest pewter makers, still run by the family that founded it nearly 250 years ago. 


The story began when Thomas Williams started a small workshop making flatware and dishes from his home on the Welsh border, and from there the craft passed down through eight generations of the same family, all the way to Rebecca Johnson, who joined the business in 2015. 


Today we're based at our workshop in Digbeth, Birmingham, where we've been since the early 1970s.

OUR STORY
Pouring molten pewter into a bronze mould

We work from a collection of over 1,500 antique bronze moulds, some of which are centuries old. Many were made by hand long before machine tooling existed, and we still use them today, alongside moulds and skills of our own, to produce pieces with the kind of character that mass production simply can't replicate.
