Slip a piece of Celtic art into your waistcoat pocket. The Square Knot Pewter Pocket Watch carries a four-cornered interlaced knot on the front, cast in pewter and fitted with a quartz movement.

The pewter square knot motif on the front is hand cast at our Birmingham pewter workshop in some of the finest British Pewter, then fitted with a reliable quartz movement and a three-year battery. At around 77g it has a substantial feel without dragging a waistcoat pocket out of shape. It comes complete with its chain and arrives in a leatherette presentation box, a good gift for groomsmen, fathers and grandfathers, milestone birthdays or retirements.

The square knot comes from Celtic art, a four-cornered interlaced pattern with no beginning and no end, traditionally associated with strength, balance and the binding of friendships. It is heavy meaning for a waistcoat pocket, though a pocket watch carries it well: an ancient symbol on the front with modern timekeeping inside.

A Pewter Maker picking up an Antique Mould

A E Williams (Est 1779) Ltd is one of Britain's oldest pewter makers, still run by the family that founded it nearly 250 years ago. 


The story began when Thomas Williams started a small workshop making flatware and dishes from his home on the Welsh border, and from there the craft passed down through eight generations of the same family, all the way to Rebecca Johnson, who joined the business in 2015. 


Today we're based at our workshop in Digbeth, Birmingham, where we've been since the early 1970s.

OUR STORY
Pouring molten pewter into a bronze mould

We work from a collection of over 1,500 antique bronze moulds, some of which are centuries old. Many were made by hand long before machine tooling existed, and we still use them today, alongside moulds and skills of our own, to produce pieces with the kind of character that mass production simply can't replicate.
