Rampant Lion Pocket Watch

Carry a piece of Scottish heraldry in your waistcoat pocket. The Rampant Lion Pewter Pocket Watch has the Royal Banner of Scotland hand cast on its front in some of the finest British Pewter.

The motif is cast at our Birmingham pewter workshop, then fitted with a reliable quartz movement and a three-year battery. At around 77g it has a properly substantial feel without dragging a waistcoat pocket out of shape. It comes complete with its chain in a leatherette presentation box, a good gift for Burns Night, Six Nations match days, milestone birthdays, Scottish fathers and grandfathers.

The heraldic lion has appeared on Scottish flags since the reign of Alexander II, who ruled from 1214 to 1249, which makes it considerably older than the St Andrew's Cross. Strictly speaking it remains a royal flag, though it is flown at Murrayfield and Hampden by anyone within earshot of a Scotland team.

A Pewter Maker picking up an Antique Mould

A E Williams (Est 1779) Ltd is one of Britain's oldest pewter makers, still run by the family that founded it nearly 250 years ago. 


The story began when Thomas Williams started a small workshop making flatware and dishes from his home on the Welsh border, and from there the craft passed down through eight generations of the same family, all the way to Rebecca Johnson, who joined the business in 2015. 


Today we're based at our workshop in Digbeth, Birmingham, where we've been since the early 1970s.

OUR STORY
Pouring molten pewter into a bronze mould

We work from a collection of over 1,500 antique bronze moulds, some of which are centuries old. Many were made by hand long before machine tooling existed, and we still use them today, alongside moulds and skills of our own, to produce pieces with the kind of character that mass production simply can't replicate.
