Carry the watch a Victorian detective would have approved of. Our Sherlock Holmes Mechanical Pewter Pocket Watch has a hand cast pewter Holmes motif on the front and a 17-jewel skeleton movement on view through the back.

A double full hunter case, both front and back lift open. The motif is hand cast in some of the finest British Pewter at our Birmingham workshop. Holmes himself was rarely seen without a pocket watch. Weighing around 92g, this mechanical pocket watch comes with its chain in a leatherette presentation box. A natural choice for crime fiction readers, Sherlockians, retiring detectives, watch collectors, fathers and grandfathers.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's creation first appeared in print in 1887. The man behind the detective played cricket on the same team as J M Barrie, was a firm believer in fairies and at the age of forty tried to enlist in the Boer War but was turned down for being too overweight.

A Pewter Maker picking up an Antique Mould

A E Williams (Est 1779) Ltd is one of Britain's oldest pewter makers, still run by the family that founded it nearly 250 years ago. 


The story began when Thomas Williams started a small workshop making flatware and dishes from his home on the Welsh border, and from there the craft passed down through eight generations of the same family, all the way to Rebecca Johnson, who joined the business in 2015. 


Today we're based at our workshop in Digbeth, Birmingham, where we've been since the early 1970s.

OUR STORY
Pouring molten pewter into a bronze mould

We work from a collection of over 1,500 antique bronze moulds, some of which are centuries old. Many were made by hand long before machine tooling existed, and we still use them today, alongside moulds and skills of our own, to produce pieces with the kind of character that mass production simply can't replicate.
