Raise a toast to Wales wherever the day takes you. Our Wales Pewter Hip Flask pairs a polished stainless steel body with a hand cast pewter Welsh dragon, y Ddraig Goch, set against the clean lines of the steel.

The pewter dragon is hand cast at our Birmingham pewter workshop in some of the finest British Pewter. Holding 6oz and measuring 135mm tall by 95mm wide, weighing around 170g empty, it sits properly in a jacket pocket and is built to last. It arrives complete in a gift box, a good gift for St David's Day, rugby internationals, Welsh fathers and grandfathers or Christmas.

In heraldry the dragon is unmistakable, bat wings, barbed tongue and tail, breathing fire, a symbol of power, wisdom and the overcoming of an adversary. The poets Aneirin and Taliesin used draig to mean a warrior or leader, which is where the Arthurian title Pendragon comes from, granted to British chiefs in moments of extreme danger, including Uther Pendragon, King Arthur's father.

A Pewter Maker picking up an Antique Mould

A E Williams (Est 1779) Ltd is one of Britain's oldest pewter makers, still run by the family that founded it nearly 250 years ago. 


The story began when Thomas Williams started a small workshop making flatware and dishes from his home on the Welsh border, and from there the craft passed down through eight generations of the same family, all the way to Rebecca Johnson, who joined the business in 2015. 


Today we're based at our workshop in Digbeth, Birmingham, where we've been since the early 1970s.

OUR STORY
Pouring molten pewter into a bronze mould

We work from a collection of over 1,500 antique bronze moulds, some of which are centuries old. Many were made by hand long before machine tooling existed, and we still use them today, alongside moulds and skills of our own, to produce pieces with the kind of character that mass production simply can't replicate.

Pewter sits at the heart of everything we do, but we also work with slate, glass, leather, and wood — each selected because it brings something the others can't: a different feel, a different occasion, a different kind of beauty.
