Hurricane Fighter Mechanical Pocket Watch

Pewter fronted mechanical pocket watches, one showing an open skeleton dial with Roman numerals and the other displaying a closed casing embossed with a Hawker Hurricane fighter plane, styled on a desk with aviator memorabilia

Hurricane Fighter Mechanical Pocket Watch

Carry a piece of 1940 in your pocket. Our Hurricane Fighter Mechanical Pewter Pocket Watch has a hand cast Hawker Hurricane motif on the front and a 17-jewel skeleton movement behind it.

A double full hunter case, both front and back lift open, with no battery and no quartz. The motif is hand cast in some of the finest British Pewter at our Birmingham workshop. Weighing around 92g, this mechanical pocket watch comes with its chain in a leatherette presentation box. A natural choice for RAF veterans, aviation enthusiasts, history buffs, retiring engineers, watch collectors or fathers and grandfathers who built models of one as boys.

The Spitfire gets the glory, but the Hurricane shot down more enemy aircraft than every other British defence combined in the summer of 1940, a quiet, sturdy, utterly essential machine. Hand-wound engineering suits it, since the aircraft was held together by the same kind of honest work.

A Pewter Maker picking up an Antique Mould

A E Williams (Est 1779) Ltd is one of Britain's oldest pewter makers, still run by the family that founded it nearly 250 years ago.

The story began when Thomas Williams started a small workshop making flatware and dishes from his home on the Welsh border, and from there the craft passed down through eight generations of the same family, all the way to Rebecca Johnson, who joined the business in 2015.

Today we're based at our workshop in Digbeth, Birmingham, where we've been since the early 1970s.

OUR STORY
Pouring molten pewter into a bronze mould

We work from a collection of over 1,500 antique bronze moulds, some of which are centuries old. Many were made by hand long before machine tooling existed, and we still use them today, alongside moulds and skills of our own, to produce pieces with the kind of character that mass production simply can't replicate.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

At A E Williams, the materials we work with have been chosen over nearly 250 years of making things properly. Pewter sits at the heart of everything we do, but we also work with slate, glass, leather, and wood — each selected because it brings something the others can't: a different feel, a different occasion, a different kind of beauty.

Whatever you're looking for, every material we use is chosen to last, and to look better for it.
